Why discharge your mortgage?

Why discharge your mortgage?

At Gilson Gray, we are keen to assist our clients from the purchase of your first property to paying off your mortgage.

If you have repaid your mortgage, the important final step thereafter is to discharge the mortgage from the title.

In Scotland, the Registers of Scotland keep a record of your property’s title, with the attached mortgage deed, known as the Standard Security.

To obtain a clear title, a solicitor will need to create a Deed of Discharge, which removes the mortgage from the property.

What are the steps involved?

Gilson Gray make the discharging of your mortgage a stress-free and straightforward transaction.

Once you have received the letter from your lender advising your mortgage is repaid, please do not hesitate to contact us and we can guide you through the process.

A dedicated team member within your local branch will prepare and submit the Discharge deed for registration with the Registers of Scotland. The registered Discharge will thereafter be returned within a few weeks, and we will provide you with your updated title, with the mortgage cleared from the title.

It really is as simple as that!
