Ranny’s 16-year Financial Services career has centred on helping his clients to find solutions to their financial problems. He has worked with several major Financial Institutions including Scottish Widows, Lloyds Private Bank and Schroders Personal Wealth. He joined Gilson Gray’s North Berwick Team in 2024 after a period advising expatriates in Australia. As a Dunbar local, he helps clients in and around East Lothian to achieve their most important financial goals.

    Ranny prides himself on the service he offers his clients, they describe him as “trustworthy”, “easy to talk to” and “knowledgeable”.  He understands that everyone’s experience and relationship to money is different and tailors his approach to suit each of his clients.   By listening carefully and asking the right questions, he helps them to identify their most important financial goals and works with them to build a plan to achieve them. He was recently recognised as one of Vouchedfor’s Top Rated Advisers in 2025 on the strength of the feedback from his clients.   

    Ranny specialises in Retirement Planning, he can help you to understand how much you’ll need for your dream retirement and whether you’re on track to achieve it.  He can help you organise your old pensions and enjoys tracking down lost pension plans.  He holds the Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning, Pension Transfer Specialist Accreditation, The Certificate in Discretionary Investment Management and is approaching Chartered Financial Planner Status. He is a Chartered Financial Planner and holds the Advanced Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning, Pension Transfer Specialist Accreditation and The Certificate in Discretionary Investment Management.

    Outside of work, he spends much of his time outdoors with his wife and two young children. Rain or shine, they can often be found on their local Belhaven Beach, paddling, surfing or enjoying a bonfire with friends.  He is an avid runner, who regularly competes in events from 10-mile trail runs to 30-mile obstacle races. He recently joined Simba Charity’s Board of Trustees and gives his time and expertise in support of their work.
