National Fertility Week 2022: Fertility Law

National Fertility Week 2022: Fertility Law

This week is National Fertility Awareness Week run by Fertility Network UK.

This year the theme is #Fighting4Fertility because so much change is needed to help the 3.5million women and men in the UK facing infertility. Fertility Network UK aim to sign-post support to people across all stages of their fertility journeys and we want to highlight the services that the Family Law Team at Gilson Gray can offer to people during their fertility journey whether that is through assisted conception, surrogacy or adoption.

Whichever way you choose to achieve your family, early legal advice is imperative. There are different legal considerations such as inheritance, employment rights, financial responsibility and legal parenthood and responsibility to take into account depending on the route you choose. We are well placed to advise you on the legal issues that may arise on your path to parenthood including;-

Assisted reproduction and Donor Conception

We can advise you on the legal aspects of your fertility journey including Donor conception and known donor disputes as well as Pre-conception agreements

Surrogacy

This is an area currently undergoing reform, with a draft Bill expected in spring 2023. Whilst a solicitor cannot prepare a surrogacy agreement, if you are thinking about proceeding with Surrogacy, early legal input is required and we can advise you on all legal aspects of your Surrogacy journey.

Adoption

Adopting a child is a major decision and there is formal legal process through which you become the child’s legal parent which we can fully advise you on.

The law surrounding fertility can be a difficult landscape to navigate and we are here to guide you through that journey. Get in touch for more information or to speak to one of our specialist solicitors.
