A legal firm, which recently launched as part of the St James’s Place (SJP) network, has bought two financial services firms, fueling its plans to reach £500m of assets under management (AUM) in five years.

Gilson Gray’s acquisitions of A MacLeod Financial Services and the Lindsay Practice took the firm’s assets under management to £100m and added £2.4m in gross capital value to the firm’s balance sheet.

The law firm launched in May this year and is looking to acquire further financial advice businesses “from outside the SJP network” to realise its growth plans.

Gilson Gray’s strategy is based on offering legal and financial advice under the same roof to corporate and private clients.

The law firm will be in a position to offer advice on mortgages, investments, pensions, tax planning and protection insurance following the merger with the advice firms.

A Macleod is an SJP financial advice firm based in Glasgow and Edinburgh, while Edinburgh-based The Lindsay Practice offers a bespoke wealth management service.

Glen Gilson, managing partner at Gilson Gray, said: “Our strategy is to attract the best talent in their respective markets. Angus and Alastair’s businesses are a strong fit for us strategically and we are delighted to have them on-board.”
