Despite all the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 crisis, Gilson Gray’s Legal Director, Ken Lauder has recently enjoyed a double celebration. A leading clinical negligence and catastrophic injury specialist, Ken was brought in to the firm a year ago to set up a new clinical negligence and personal injury offering. As well as celebrating his first year with the firm, Ken has reached the impressive milestone of recovering more than £2,000,000 in damages for clients since joining the firm.
The team has successfully negotiated a range of claims, large and small. Notable successes have included recovering damages arising from the Clutha helicopter disaster, from a delay in diagnosing septic shock, a historic childhood abuse claim, delay in diagnosing renal failure and several consent cases.
Head of Litigation, Rosie Walker, confirmed the business is delighted with the team’s early achievements. “It has been great to work with Ken again and to help him develop this new service line. I have been delighted to see the immediate successes he has had and expect to see further growth in this area over the coming year. It has fully justified the firm’s investment in this new specilaism.”
On a personal level, the move to Gilson Gray has been a very positive one for Ken. Having worked with Head of Litigation, Rosie Walker, as well as a number of other members of the team previously, he has found the whole firm very welcoming. He has settled in quickly to the firm’s Edinburgh and Glasgow offices and is very much looking forward to getting back there as well as expanding his work into the North Berwick and Dundee offices.
Reflecting on his first year at the firm, Ken commented, “I’ve got no hesitation recommending the firm both to clients and as a place to work. Rosie Walker has built a great team spirit in the litigation team and the team itself is full of talented and very committed lawyers. Glen Gilson and the rest of the Management Board are all over every aspect of running a successful firm. That’s been nowhere no more evident that in the firm’s handling of the current coronavirus crisis, which I think has been really impressive”.
