Expertise
With over 20 years’ experience in all aspects of dispute resolution including contractual disputes, intellectual property disputes, land disputes, neighbour disputes, criminal matters, director and shareholder disputes, partnership disputes, Solicitor negligence and professional negligence regulatory investigations, Fatal Accident Inquiries, Church of Scotland disciplinary hearings and dealing with cases in the Sheriff Court, Justice of the Peace Court, The Lands Tribunal for Scotland and the Commercial Court of the Court of Session.
John also has expertise in advising the press and publishers on the legality of their articles prior to publication to avoid claims for defamation and breach of the press reporting restrictions in the criminal and civil courts. John has also successfully pursued and defended cases to the Independent Press Complaints Organisation (IPSO).
John is also an Accredited Mediator and Evaluative Mediator which allows him to facilitate settlement of commercial disputes constructively with the privacy of the parties protected. John has acted in a number of high value mediations where the outcome was satisfactory to all parties.
John was a tutor on the Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Dundee teaching Professional Ethics and now teaches Client Care and Interviewing Techniques.
