This is an annual campaign by Resolution – a network of family lawyers, mediators and other professionals committed to the constructive resolution of divorce, separation and family disputes – to encourage a non-confrontational approach to divorce.
The aim of Resolution and its members is to promote a constructive and non-confrontational approach to family law issues, ultimately seeking to minimise conflict and protect the best interests of families, especially children.
When a marriage or relationship breaks down, not only does it impact the couple involved – it also has a huge impact upon their children.
This year’s theme is the “Year of the Code,” focusing on Resolution’s Code of Practice and how members can demonstrate their commitment to a child-focused and less adversarial divorce process.
What this year’s Good Divorce Week aims to achieve is:
Encourage a child-focused approach: To ensure that the needs of any children are a priority during the separation process.
Promote non-confrontational methods: To advocate for alternatives to court, such as mediation, to resolve disputes.
Improve access to early legal advice: To help separating couples make informed decisions early in the process, which can prevent costly and emotional mistakes.
In a series of articles this week we will be exploring if it is really possible for have a ‘Good Divorce’.
