GILSON Gray, Scotland’s most upwardly mobile law firm, has again highlighted it’s commitment to growth by cherry-picking the best legal talent from across the country with the appointment of a personal injury expert.
Ken Lauder joins the rapidly growing firm as a Legal Director in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team.
With over 30 years’ experience in many areas of civil court Ken is also a qualified Solicitor Advocate.
Specialising in high value personal injury, medical negligence and other professional negligence cases Ken also acts in wider litigation.
Recent career highlights have included successfully acting for several victims of the Clutha Vaults accident in November 2013 and obtaining substantial damages for members of a German family following a fatal road traffic accident in Scotland.
Ken said: “I was approached by Gilson Gray with the idea that I would be able to add a further area of expertise to the firm’s existing offering. It’s a really exciting opportunity for me and I feel very fortunate to be here.
“Many of my cases involve acting for people who have been affected by life changing incidents.
“I’ve always felt that it’s important that my clients then have as much support as possible from me, rather than feeling trapped in an unwanted litigation process on top of everything else.
“I believe that providing that human service to my clients fits in many of the values of Gilson Gray which is another reason that the opportunity to join the firm is so attractive.
“To be at a company that believes in doing things a little differently is a chance that doesn’t come along very often and I’m really looking forward to joining in with that too.”
Within the area of clinical negligence he has a particular interest in birth injury claims and his most recent success was based on a structured settlement involving a seven figure lump sum payment together with an index linked annual sum.
Ken is also a member of the Pursuers’ Panel of the Law Society of Scotland which deals with negligence claims against other lawyers.
Outside the office, he serves on the Insurance Committee of the Law Society of Scotland, whose functions include negotiating professional indemnity insurance arrangements for solicitors in private practice in Scotland and putting in place an annual risk management programme for Scottish solicitors.
Glen Gilson, Managing Partner at Gilson Gray, said: “We’re in the fortunate position of being one of the fastest growing law firms in the country which allows us to attract talent like Ken.
“Our success has been down to many factors but a prevalent theme has been our ability to hire the best people.
“With Ken this is exactly what we’re getting. Not only one of the top personal injury lawyers in Scotland but also an experienced individual who can help guide clients through what can be a stressful and confusing situation.”
Gilson Gray was the largest full service law firm launch in Scottish legal history in 2014 when it opened simultaneously in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Gilson Gray picked up two awards at the 2017 Law Awards of Scotland adding to a host of other accolades, including six awards at the ACQ5 legal awards – the third year in a row that Gilson Gray has seen success – including Law Firm of the Year, Insolvency Lawyer of the Year, all for the second time in three years.
The Firm also won Corporate Firm of the year 2018, following previous recognition as Litigation Firm of the Year.
