A rapidly expanding full service law firm is reaffirming its commitment to growth – with a key appointment of a property law expert.

Joining from his Partner role at Aberdein Considine, Julian Scott will bolster Gilson Gray’s residential property team as Residential Conveyancing Director.

His appointment comes twelve months after a team influx from prominent rivals Warners – which was headed up with the recruitment of Deborah McCathie as Partner and Head of Conveyancing.

Edinburgh native Julian, who has more than 30 years’ experience in property law, is looking forward to contributing to the progressive team atmosphere at the full service firm.

He said: “Edinburgh has always been my home and is also one of the most established property markets in the UK – with a very bright future ahead.

“I am delighted to be playing a role as part of a firm that has clear ambitions to keep a good overview of the sector as a whole and not become pigeonholed.

“Gilson Gray is incredibly forward thinking and eager to keep its clients at the heart of its work and I look forward to helping develop the business and really embedding myself in the team.”

After studying at Aberdeen University, Julian completed his traineeship at Archibald Campbell and Harley where he would make partner and, later, equity partner before moving on following a merger.

Glen Gilson, Managing Partner at Gilson Gray said: “Adding yet another experienced head to our property operation this year is testament to our commitment to be an industry leader in Scotland – and to the fine work carried out by Deborah and her team over the past 12 months.

“While many other firms have scaled back this aspect of their practises we are eager to continue to provide those who want it with the highest possible quality of service.

“The residential property team’s success is helping us to achieve strong recognition as a full service firm capable of specialist recognition across all services.”

Julian lives in Edinburgh with his partner and is a keen rugby supporter – having previously toured France with the 1986 Scotland team following his school days as captain at Stewarts Melville.

Matthew Gray, Managing Director of Property Services at Gilson Gray, said: “Julian brings a wealth of experience with him and it is reflected in the quality of his work.

“He shares our passion for development and a desire to keep things moving forward so will integrate well with our way of doing things, while bringing a fresh outlook on our operations and approach.

He will be joined by another new appointment to the residential property team, Caley Toner, a Solicitor joining from McVey and Murricane.

Managing Partner Glen Gilson, summarised: “The mindset of the business remains the same as the day we started – to provide a transparently and persuasively priced service and only employ partners and staff that know how to engage properly with clients to make the service exceptional and wherever possible enjoyable.”

In 2014, Gilson Gray opened as the largest full service law firm launch in Scottish legal history, with a portfolio of talent poached from the leading firms in Scotland –opening simultaneously in Glasgow (160 West George Street) and Edinburgh (29 Rutland Square) with a radical client-focus strategy that offers a cost effective alternative to the top ten firms in the country.

The Firm recently landed the award for Litigation Firm of the Year at the Law Awards of Scotland 2016, held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Glasgow.

Since launch, it has won a multitude of awards, including Scotland’s best new business at the Scottish Variety Awards 2016, Law Firm of the Year, and Best Merger & Acquisitions Law firm – Scotland 2016.
