Seasonal Tones - The Autumn Edit with Renée Turner Interiors

Bringing a stunning seasonal style into your home with our latest guest blog from Renée Turner Interiors

With the leaves turning and the days becoming shorter, it’s now the perfect time to warm up your home interiors with the rich and inviting hues of autumn. When we think of the “ber” months, we might associate them with burnt russets and vibrant oranges and yellows. These colours can help transform any space into a cosy retreat.

Autumnal interior design is a wonderful trend, when defined with regards to fashion, refers to the styling, colours, materials, and shapes that are popular in a particular season and that might have a long-term influence on the market.

We are going to show you how you can blend these beautiful shades into your home, while keeping things timeless and sustainable.

Adding Colour for the Season – The Art of Accents

Bring the season’s essence indoors by incorporating vibrant or warm colours in creative ways. While painting a feature wall might be tempting, you will get more longevity and sustainable outcomes if you use accents, often through accessories and soft furnishings. This could be through bold art prints, cushions, a statement vase or lampshade to introduce new hues effortlessly. They provide a pop of colour without a long-term commitment, allowing you to refresh easily for other seasons.

Futureproofing with Neutrals

If you often get bored with your interiors and love to bring in new colours that tie in with the seasons, start with a neutral canvas. Whites, beiges, and soft greys are perfect as they complement any trend and transition smoothly across seasons. Neutrals serve as a timeless base, providing versatility and futureproofing your decor. With a subtle backdrop, it’s easy to switch out accents and accessories as trends evolve. My three favourite colours are:

Soft Furnishings – Texture Meets Colour

Textiles offer one of the simplest ways to incorporate seasonal colours. Cushions, throws, curtains/blinds, upholstery and rugs in rich oranges and russets can instantly cosy up a room. Consider sustainable materials like organic cotton or recycled fibres for your textiles. Swapping curtains seasonally is another smart move. You can use lighter fabrics for spring and summer and introduce your greens or the bright spring flowery hues, and then change to heavier, insulated ones for autumn and winter. This not only enhance the warmth, but also improve energy efficiency.

Best Colours to Combine and Create Comfort and Style

Pairing colours that complement each other is key. For the colder months, combine rich mustards with deep greens or blues to bring nature indoors. Terracotta and soft greys offer an earthy yet refined ambiance, while navy paired with burnt orange can create a sophisticated cocooning effect. These combinations not only elevate your autumn decor, they set the stage for a stylish transition into the colder seasons.

Creating Atmosphere with Lighting

Lighting plays a critical role in setting the autumn mood. As days grow shorter, incorporate various lighting sources to maintain a warm and inviting atmosphere. Floor lamps and table lamps can provide a soft, warm glow, perfect for snuggling up with a good book. If you are about to undertake a renovation, consider wall lights as well. You can now buy wall lights and table lamps as rechargeable options if you can’t add sockets or wall lights without making a mess. Candles and sustainable LED string lights also add to the coziness, creating warmth through the home.

Visualising with Mood Boards

Before diving into decor changes, crafting a mood board can be immensely helpful. It allows you to visualise and experiment with colours, textures, and styles until you find the perfect arrangement. Digital tools like Canva offer user-friendly ways to mix and match elements until you achieve the desired aesthetic. Mood boards simplify decision-making, ensuring a cohesive and beautiful result.

As an example of the fantastic work that Renée creates for her clients, she has created a custom mood board for the Autumn season specifically for readers of this guest blog. Shop the mood board below!
