Legal Firm Scoops Landmark Award In Wake Of First Anniversary

Award for Excellence in Corporate Law – Scotland

A Scottish legal firm has crowned its first anniversary by picking up ‘Best Corporate Law Firm – Scotland’ at the prestigious Acquisitions International M and A awards 2015.

Gilson Gray, who exceeded even the most ambitious projections in its first year of trading, has hailed the award as proof of the success of its ‘radical’ business model.

In May 2014 the Edinburgh and Glasgow based law firm became the biggest full-service legal firm to open in Scotland in more than 100 years, having secured some of the sharpest legal personnel from across the country.

Managing Partner Glen Gilson, said: “This award comes off the back of previous award wins in March and reaffirms our strategic decision to launch as a full service firm which concentrates predominantly on excellence in our client service.

“It also demonstrates the firm’s commitment to become one of the leading law firms in the country, through a strategy to drive growth by attracting the best talent in their respective fields.”

The Acquisition International M&A  Awards celebrate dedication, skill and outstanding results from individuals, teams and firms across the corporate world.

Of particular note is the firm’s work in connection with the set up of one of the first Employee Ownership Trusts in the country, for Mike Stoane Lighting Limited. The law creating this new shareholding entity came into full effect on 1October, and the firm concluded this deal on October 3.

This came on top of a spread of other high-value transactions, including advising Scottow Moor Solar farm on the UK’s largest solar farm.

Derek Hamill, Partner and Head of Corporate, said: “To win ‘Best Corporate Law Firm – Scotland is testament to the ambition and achievements of the entire Gilson Gray team.

“We are dedicated to help businesses; whether that is through unforeseen issues or by providing expert advice to allow them to plan for growth.”

Glen added: “From day one, we believed discerning corporate, commercial and private clients wanted the option of a major new full service firm that offered high quality legal, financial and property services which are neither impersonal nor impenetrable.

“To have achieved the growth we have within our first year – and now be recognised by our peers through all the recent award wins – particularly Law Firm of the Year and indeed Client Service Law Firm of The Year – is very humbling.  We are very grateful for the support of our clients and the wider Scottish business community.”
