Pioneering Digital Court Service brings Scotland into 21st century

Everyone knows that things move forward and develop over time.

The way some people consume news has changed from flicking through a newspaper to scrolling down the news feed on their iPad or phone.

People used to send letters to each other as the only way of communication, now we’re used to instant messaging on a host of platforms.

A trip to the shops used to be required to pick up our latest clothes but now we can surf an array of stores on the internet.

All these changes have one thing in common. They involve things being taken online.

And I’m proud to say that Gilson Gray is now continuing this theme in the legal industry.

We’re a firm that strongly believes in doing things differently from the norm to achieve the very best results for clients.

With CivilOnline, we’ve become the first firm in the country to use the live system which allows civil disputes with a value of £5,000 or less to be submitted online.

Parties can now submit cases, lodge supporting documents and pay court fees with this new digital court service.

It’s testament to our work as a progressive firm that we were selected to be part of such a ground-breaking project that has the ability to transform the traditional methods of legal work in Scotland.

We are now able to secure applications and manage cases using a fully digital service.

The cases will still be judicially managed but evidence will now be presented electronically with documents submitted online.

It’s a real game-changer as it makes tracking cases through the online portal easy and quicker.

I’m proud to be part of such an historic event for Scotland’s legal industry. The fact that my Debt Recovery team were selected by the Scottish Court Service to help develop the new system then test it with the first online submission before it went live last week to the market speaks volumes for my team.

The submission of cases is very easy and can be done in a matter of minutes and I’m excited to see it develop as we go forward.

At Gilson Gray we’re always pushing boundaries and aiming to get away from the traditional stuffy perception many have of lawyers and legal firms so it’s brilliant to be able to lead the way with CivilOnline.
